Collection Physical Description: The Council of the Royal Society of British Sculptors prepared this pamphlet, which is described as 'a purely technical work giving recipes for the treatment of Sculpture in various materials'. It was compiled at the suggestion of the President, and in 'consultation with experts of the first rank', to encourage 'the better care of Sculpture throughout the country'. It was sent to municipal authorities, Directors of art galleries, etc. It was 'supplied gratis to collectors who express a wish to possess it' (see 'Annual Report, 1927', 1928).
Collection Context: It is reported that in 1930, as a result of several letters in The Times requesting help with the re-cleaning of monuments, William Reynold-Stephens wrote to the newspaper to recommend that the pamphlet could be obtained gratis on application to the Secretary. As a result of this, over ninety applications were received.
