Sculptor, modeller
Born in Carrara, Italy. He was a member of the Academy of Ferrara, and studied art in Florence and Rome. Fucigna worked as John Birnie Philip's chief assistant modeller, and completed a number of works that were left unfinished when his employer died in 1875. The architect William Burges commissioned Fucigna to make two works for Cardiff Castle, a statue of St John the Divine (cast by J. Barkentin, probably James Barkentin, father of George Barkentin) and a Virgin and Child both dating from 1875. Fucigna was also commissioned by the architect of Holloway College, William Crossland, to produce a series of reliefs on the barrel vaulted plaster ceiling of the Chapel. The north side depicts Biblical characters from the New Testament and the south side from the Old Testament.
