Sculptor
Born in Brighton, Sussex. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1847 on the recommendation of William Behnes. Gawen submitted sculptures to the Royal Academy from Behnes studio between 1855-61 and so it is assumed he worked there as an assistant. He worked as a sculptor up to his death in 1901 but ceased to exhibit in the 1880s. Gawen was both deaf and dumb.

Gawen entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1847 on the recommendation of Behnes. Then in the latter half of the 1850s Gawen submitted work to the Royal Academy from Behnes' studio address. It is therefore assumed he worked for the older sculptor.
