Sculptor, medallist
James Scurry (1826-1894) was one of six children of William Scurry (1803-1880) of London. James Scurry and his brothers moved to Melbourne in 1853, where they established successful practices. James exhibited in Australia and London. In later years James established a partnership with his nephew, the sculptor and architectural modeller William Charles Scurry senior who was born in Rushworth, Victoria on 13 January 1862 and died on 18 July 1930 in Surrey Hills. The partnership lasted thirteen years after which William worked with Wardrop as Wardrop & Scurry. A third generation of the family was also involved in sculpture - William Charles Scurry junior (1895-1963), son of William Charles Scurry senior - was a soldier and architectural modeller who served in both the First and Second World Wars.
