Sculptor, teacher
He studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1930-5 with Alexander Carrick, and later in Copenhagen. In the 1950s and 1960s he was Master of sculpture at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and carried out a number of commissions in the area, several of them with the architect, Billy Williamson. There is a roman head by McCheyne set in the courtyard of Wallsend Library, Ferndale Ave, Wallsend, Tyne and Wear.
