Sculptor
Son of a crofter in Carmyllie, who began work in the quarries there, and did occasional early carved work for the local gentry. Attended the Trustees Academy from 1843 to 1849 when he worked at Hospitalfield as a sculptor/carver and in the local quarries.

Hutchison was a woodcarving apprentice at Hospitalfield where, among many other things, he carved a honeysuckle background to the Pan & Satyres boss on the fireplace by James Christie.
