Born in London. Studied with her father, at the Royal Academy Schools 1876 to early 1880s, then trained in Paris under Frédéric Louis Désiré Bogino. One of Emmeline's close friends was the painter Helen Trevor who travelled and worked in France and Italy in the 1880s and 1890s. After Helen's death, Emmeline arranged for the publication of her correspondence as 'The Ramblings of an Artist: Selections from the letters of H. M. Trevor to E. H.', published by Gay & Bird, London, 1901.

Halse was awarded a silver medal for the best model of a statue or group in 1877 and in 1878. In 1880 she was awarded silver medal for her restoration of a mutliated antqiue statue, and in 1883 second prize of £10 for a model of a design. See Royal Academy 'Annual Reports'.
