Douglas Robertson Bisset

Sculptor, teacher
Born in Strichen, Aberdeenshire. He served an apprenticeship with an architectural sculptor in Glasgow before enrolling at Glasgow School of Art. Bisset won the Newbery Gold Medal and John Keppie Scholarship c.1928. After this he travelled in Germany (1929), Vienna (1930), and Copenhagen (193s) where he studied with E. Utzon Frank. In 1934 he was awarded the Rome Scholarship and spent a year in Rome before moving on to Athens. Bisset taught at Brighton School of Art (1939) and Leeds School of Art (1939-46).
