Monumental sculptor, carver, teacher
Born in Edinburgh. He was the youngest son of William Mossman Senior (1793-1851), sculptor and marble cutter who was born in West Linton, Peebleshire and died in Glasgow. William Mossman Junior trained in the family firm and in the London studios of Marochetti, William Behnes and John Thomas, for whom he produced carving work on the Houses of Parliament. For a short period (1869-71) he taught at Glasgow School of Art. He died in Glasgow and was interred in Sighthill Cemetery.
