Sculptor
Born in Uppsala, Sweden. Between 1897-1904 Milles studied in Paris and Munich. On his return to Sweden, he built a studio at Millesgården (1906-8) which later became a foundation and was donated to the Swedish people. Milles lived and worked in the USA from 1931-51. Then in 1951 he and his wife returned to Millesgården where they lived during the summer, from then till his death they spent the winters in Rome.
Milles was brought to the USA by the American publisher, George Gough Booth, who appointed him as sculptor in residence at Cranbrook Educational Community, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. During the twenty years that Milles lived in the USA, he completed many public commissions.
