Sculptor, painter, engraver
Born in the USA. Her brother, Edward Knoblock (or Knoblauch 1874-1945) was a playright who dramatized novels as well as writing original and collaborative works. His greatest success was 'Kismet, an "Arabian night" in three acts' (1912). He was also a collector of furniture and a pioneer of the Regency revival. Gertrude moved to London, probably with her brother, around 1905. She settled in Chelsea in the early 1930s and died in London.
Amongst her known works is a fountain figure of a boy wearing a fireman's helmet and holding a hose at Plas Brondanw Gardens, Llanfrothen, Gwynedd, North Wales (the family home of the architect, Clough Williams-Ellis). There is a small garden statue of a faun at Longue Vue House and Gardens, New Orleans, LA. This was formerly attributed to Josephine Knoblock but may be the sculpture of a faun that Gertrude Knoblock exhibited at the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers in 1922.
