Sculptor, painter
He was the second son of Sir George Kinloch of Kinloch (1800-81) and heir to the estate of Balhary, Perthshire. Kinloch was a friend of 'Pen' Browning (1849-1912), the son of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. In December 1874, Kinloch joined Pen in Antwerp, to study under the painter, Jean Arnould Heyermans. It is assumed both of them continued their work in Antwerp and Dinant until about 1885.
During this time (1882-83), Pen became a student of Auguste Rodin on the recommendation of the artist and businessman, Gustav Natorp. Kinloch joined with Natorp and Pen Browning to form a circle of disciples surrounding Rodin, who availed themselves of his 'valuable advice'. At some point, Kinloch married Maria Antonia Amelia Abbruzzesi (born in Velletri, died at Balhary House, 18 October 1938), one of Rodin’s models, with whom he had four sons.
There are two works by Kinloch in Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Perth & Kinross Council: a painting of a 'Highland Shepherd' and a sculpture of a 'Head of a Young Man' (the latter suggests the influence of Rodin).
