Born and died in Montrose, Forfarshire. Apprenticed as a stonemason to his brother aged 13. Right hand extensively injured during 1WW taught himself to use his left. Attended Edinburgh College of Art for 2 years.

This was his studio from 1934-51. It was given to the town on the death of the sculptor, at his specific request, and was opened by the Montrose Town Council as a memorial to Lamb in 1955. The studio then underwent a complete renovation in 1978 by Angus District council.
