Sculptor
Born Bratislava. Worked in wide variety of media, developed innovative techniques with perspex. Studied sculpture in Prague, Vienna, Paris and Padua and taught in various institutions in Vienna, where he worked on various commissions. Also qualified as a medical doctor in 1921 at Prague University. Travelled and lived in South Africa 1936-37, Bali 1938, Australia 1939-48. Lived in London from 1948.
Commissions include: Public Library and Conservatoire of Music, Sydney 1941; Memorial Fountain for Government House in Canberra, Australia 1945; Miranda, Mermaid Fountain commissioned by Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Company, showed at SB 1951; The Twelve Apostles for Hagen, West Germany; Head, Philips headquarters, Eindhoven 1951-52; Diana and the Hounds for Diana House, London 1955; made series of works for various ocean liners, including Reina del Mar 1956.
Exhibitions include : Architectural Association, London 1956; LCC 1957; Royal Society of British Sculptors Open Air Exhibition, London 1957; Brussels International Exhibition 1958; regular exhibitor at Royal Academy from 1948 onwards.
Collections incude: Leeds City Art Galleries; Mestke Muzeum, Bratislava; Bratislava Municipal Art Gallery; State Library of New South Wales, Sydney.
