Daniel Hewlett
Born 1807 (Circa)
Died 1884
Active: 1847 - 1881
Country of birth and death: England
Sculptor, medallist
Born in Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucestershire. He is presumed to be the son of Daniel Hewlett of Gloucester who flourished between c.1808-38. The younger Daniel seems to have started out as a school master in Frampton, Gloucestershire in the early 1840s. However, he may have been responsible for the later work attributed to Hewlett Senior; a funerary monument to Thomas Miles in Leonard Stanley, Gloucestershire dating from 1838. Certainly by 1847 Daniel and his wife had moved to London where he exhibited portraits at the Royal Academy (1847-56) and Society of British Artists (1853-60). Around 1881 he moved to Lichfield, Staffordshire and died there between May and June 1884.
