Born in Kings Norton, Worcestershire (or Harborne, Birmingham). She was first apprenticed at Harborne as a woodcarver. Marguerite also studied painting and modelling at Birmingham and Bromsgrove Schools of Art. After studying with Bourdelle in Paris (from 1905), she went to Ceylon until the outbreak of war in 1914. After the death of her husband (date unknown) she returned to Paris and worked as Bourdelle's assistant until the latter's death in 1929. During the 1920s she was better known in Paris than London but from 1932 she began to achieve some recognition in London. She first visited India in 1926. From 1935 she spent ten years travelling extensively and making numerous portrait studies. These were successfully exhibited in London and purchased by various collectors including the Fitzwilliam Museum and Indian Government. She published an account of her travels 'Artist In Unknown India', London, 1948.
