Born in Vauxhall, London. Son of Thomas Bishop, traveller (born c.1835 in Lewes, Sussex). Charles had an older brother, William (born c.1860 in London) who was a painter by 1891. Based on information submitted by Chris Mees, Bishop participated in the first and second exhibitions of the Northern Art Workers Guild which took place respectively in 1898 and 1903 at Manchester City Art Gallery.
