Country of birth and death: England
Wood carver, teacher of wood carving
Born in St Pancras, London between October and December 1874. Son of William Grimwood (born c.1847 in St Pancras, London), wood carver and teacher. His younger brother, Sidney A. Grimwood (born c.1878 in St Pancras, London), was a gold and silversmith.
Herbert trained at the School of Art Wood Carving in South Kensington where his father was a teacher. Possibly as early as 1901, and certainly by 1914, Herbert was also a part-time teacher at the School. Sometime during the First World war he was appointed Principal of the School of Art Wood Carving. Between c.1900-21 Herbert was also running a business, which was based in the St Pancras area. He published 'An introduction to decorative woodwork for the use of schools' with Frederick Goodyear (University of London press, 1936). Grimwood died in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
