Sculptor
Born in Bradford, Yorkshire. He was the son of William Charles Lacey (born c.1863 in Bradford), woollen warehouseman. Edward was raised in Bradford and began attending art school around the age of 19. It is assumed he began his studies locally in Bradford or Leeds and then moved to London. In John Gorman's 'Images of labour' it is stated that Lacey was a student of James Havard Thomas at the Slade but this is unconfirmed at present.
From 1924 he exhibited in London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Lacey established a practice as a sculptor of portraits and amongst his sitters were the socialist activist and leader, Henry Mayers Hyndman (1842-1921) and a posthumous bronze bust of Mrs Rosalind Travers Hyndman. The former work was commissioned by the Hyndman memorial committee and was cast in bronze at the Parlanti foundry, it was gifted to the National Portrait Gallery in 1922. The portrait of Rosalind Hyndman was shown at the Royal Academy in 1925 (cat. no. 1230). In 1966 he was living at Lavender House, Hastings.
