Born in Low Fell, Gateshead, Durham. Frances was the daughter of Sir Joseph Wilson Swan (born c.1829), physicist and chemist whose principal achievement was inventing the incandescent light bulb. She married the engineer Reginald Keble Morcom (1877-1961) in 1904 and seems to have ceased practicing thereafter. Frances's sister, Mary E. Swan was also an artist.
