Sculptor, medallist
Winner of the Prix de Rome in 1878. Elected to the Academie des Beaux Arts in 1888 and made commander of the Legion d'Honeur in 1900. He married Marie Boulanger daughter of the wrought iron craftsman Pierre Boulanger. Roty designed over one hundred and forty medals and created 'La Semeuse' [sower](commissioned in 1886) which was used on coinage and stamps for many years.
