Born in Keighley, Yorkshire. Daughter of a wool merchant, Stephen P. Unwin (born c.1837). She remained living in the parental home until at least 1911. She served on the West Riding Education Committee and was Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors for the City of Leeds College of Art.
