Sculptor, painter, teacher, modeller
Born in Hanley, Staffordshire into a pottery family. He studied at the art school in Hanley and then at the Royal College of Art. In 1919 Cotterill established the sculpture course at Leeds College of Art. He taught all aspects of sculpture, including three sessions on Wednesdays (morning, afternoon and evening) in modelling from life. Cotterill left Leeds in 1927 and became head of York School of Arts and Crafts. He lived in York until his death.
