Sculptor
Born Charlottenburg, Berlin. Sculptor of the human figure and portraits, predominantly in bronze. Studied at Applied Art School, Berlin 1915-17; Berlin Academy 1919-1926. Left Germany in 1931 for Rome, 1931-38 and Paris 1938-9. Settled in London 1939. A.R.A. 1958. R.A. 1967. Master of Royal Academy Sculpture School 1966-69.
Commissions include: Brendan Bracken, Times Building; Neighbourly Encounter, Bermondsey, London; statue of David Lloyd George for House of Commons, London, completed 1963.
Exhibitions include: Redfern Gallery, London 1942 (solo); LCC 1948, 54; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool 1957; Royal Academy from 1957; LCC 1960.
Collections include: Tate Gallery; Arts Council; Leeds City Art Galleries.
