Stoye was a keen draughtsman who won a scholarship to the Central School of Arts and Crafts where he subsequently became a teacher in metal and enamel work. He also taught at the Brighton School of Art and the Camberwell School of Art. He is said to have joined the firm of Barkentin & Krall as a designer some time between 1912 and 1914. In 1915, he married Carl Krall's daughter Annie and succeeded his father-in-law as Managing Director after the First World War until it closed in 1935.
Stoye was a member of the Brighton Guild of Applied Arts and participated in an exhibition of work by members of the Guild at the Public Art Gallery in Brighton in 1911. He was also a member of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and showed work in their exhibition at Grafton Gallery in London in 1912.
A presidential badge in gold and enamel designed by Stoye for the British Medical Association is illustrated in 'The Studio' May 1911 (p.316); and a wrought-silver tea service designed and made by him is illustrated in 'The Studio' February 1913 (p.24).
