Born in Halifax, Yorkshire. He was a friend of the sculptor, Newbury Abbott Trent (1885-1953); they shared lodgings c.1911. Later Jowett and Trent married sisters of the sculptor, Gilbert Ledward (1888-1960). Percy married Enid Ledward (born 1889) and Newbury married Hilda.
