Listed as a medallist, line-engraver, and painter. Forrer notes that 'he appears to have been in business as a Seal-engraver and Die-sinker at 20 Leicester Square, London, and later entered into partnership with William Tassie (about 1827) whom he succeeded in 1840'. Wilson exhibited medallic works and oil paintings at the Royal Academy, London, between 1824 and 1856. See Forrer, vol. 6, (1916), p. 508.
