William Henry Woods

He studied fine art at Nottingham Art School for five years around 1930. During that time he was taught by Joseph Else and collaborated with him on a relief frieze for Scarborough Town Hall. After completing his studies, Woods worked as a graphic and commercial artist in Nottingham, London and Derby. He regularly exhibited landscape watercolours at Nottingham Castle and in other local shows. Woods made no further sculptures but during fire service in the Second World War he whittled some woodcarvings of wading birds, aircraft and wooden toys.
