Miss Effie Grace Jessop
Born 13 January 1872
Died 1970
Active: 1909 - 1915
Country of birth and death: England
Sculptor, wood carver, teacher of wood carving
Born in Nottingham. Her birth was registered in 1872 but her death registration gives 13 January 1871 as her date of birth, it is presumed the year was given incorrectly. She was the daughter of Zebedee Jessop (born c.1828 in Swineshead, Lincolnshire), Draper. Her older sister, Florence Margaret (born 1863) became a teacher of wood carving and probably studied in London at the School of Art Wood Carving. The dates Effie studied art and wood carving are not known but she was teaching privately by 1911 as well as exhibiting her work. Her father died in 1907 leaving effects valued (after being resworn) of £68,413 10s.
