"Keys, Edward 1798-1861,
Modeller the son of Samuel Keys (senior) who trained at the Nottingham Road Derby factory. He modelled farm and domestic animals and figures including the Dr Syntax series. They were a great success becoming collectors’ items. Edward became foreman of the figure making department in 1821 then left and went first to Henry & Richard Daniels and then to Minton, where in 1831 he was earning 30 shillings a week. He and his brother Daniel were possibly responsible for developing china figure making there. In 1842 he left to start his own factory but it failed and it became bankrupt. He then joined Wedgwood where it is thought he modelled many items for their Carrara range until 1853."
