Reginald Robert Tomlinson

Teacher, principal, ceramic artist, painter
Educated in Farnham. Moved to the potteries in 1909 and apprenticed as designer. Won a scholarship to the art school at Hanley also worked for the poetter, Bernard Moore. Studied at the Royal College of Art from 1912-15. Then worked in the Hague on the Palace of Peace (painting murals). After another spell working in the potteries as Art Director for Crown Staffordshire Porcelain Company, took a job teaching in Cheltenham. In 1925 became Chief Inspector for schools in London. He was acting principal of Central School of Arts and Crafts, London 1939 to 1947. [see Elliott (2004), pp. 103-10 and Haggar (1953), p. 50]
