Born Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent. 1934 joined the Stoke firm of W T Copeland & Sons, owners of the Spode Works. Chief designer and head of the decorating department at Spode in 1940. Appointed Art Director in 1956, and joined the board of directors in 1976.
