Plaster moulder, teacher of casting
Born in Chelsea. He was the son of Richard Tombs (born c.1839) working as a mangler (washing) in 1881. By 1891 Richard was working as a plaster moulder, very possibly for Enrico Cantoni who had established a successful business in the Tombs' former home at 43 Glebe Place, a few doors away from where they were now living. In 1901 or 1902, Richard moved with his wife and children to Birmingham to teach casting at the art school. He remained in post until the mid-1920s.
