He was the son of Joshua Clarke, founder of a successful church decoration and stained glass design business. Harry studied at Metropolitan School of art c.1903-11 and then worked as a freelance stained glass designer and illustrator between 1914-21. From 1921 he ran the family business and divided the stained glass studio from the church decoration business which he passed to his brother Walter. In 1929, Harry was diagnosed with tuberculosis and died in Coire, Switzerland. He left behind an important body of work including important commissions in Europe and America.
