Miss Ethel Gresley Ball
Born 24 November 1886
Active: 1911 - 1938
Country of birth and death: Ireland
Sculptor
Born in Dublin. She was the daughter of Valentine Ball (1843-95) and Mary (born c.1853 in Co. Antrim), who was living off annuities after her husband's death and employed two servants. Ethel and her older sister, Maude, were described as artists in 1911 and so had presumably begun their studies before this date.
In 1927 the National Museum of Ireland purchased a bas-relief bronze by Ethel Ball of a 'Great Irish Deer, formerly known as "Irish Elk" ', signed and dated 1926 (register number NMINH:1927.40).
This record includes information submitted by Nigel T. Monaghan, Keeper, Natural History Division, National Museum of Ireland.
