Born in Maidstone, Kent. He was the son of Charles Sharpe (sic) (born c.1800 in Maidstone, Kent) a bricklayer. A short profile of Edmund Sharp (with photograph of him on cover of the issue) was given in 'The Stone Trades Journal, vol XXII, no 11, May 1904, pp. 253-4. This article states he had published a book or pamphlet entitled 'Our Altars and How to Select Them' and that his most important work to date was the shrine in Carrara marble in the Augustinian Church in Dublin.
