Sculptor
Born in Dublin. He was the son of Edward Jones, a miniature painter. John Jones initially trained and worked as a civil engineer in Ireland, turning to sculpture c.1840 after he moved to London. He achieved some considerable success in portraiture, creating well over a hundred portrait busts and some statues. His sitters included: Daniel O'Connell; Queen Victoria; Prince Albert; Lord Brougham; the Duke of Cambridge; the Duke of Wellington; and Louis Philippe, the King of Holland. He died whilst on a visit to Finglas, Ireland.
