Born in Camberwell, London. She was the daughter of James Richardson (born c.1845, Tyrone, Ireland), a Civil Servant in the Customs and Excise Department. Maggie studied at the Royal College of Art from 1904-08 and again in 1910. In 1906 she was awarded the British Institution Scholarship (notice in 'The Anthenaeum: a Journal of Literature, Science, the Fine Arts...', no. 4109, 28 July 1906, p.1). Richardson married George J. Mitchell in 1912 and afterwards used her married name. She exhibited widely, in addition to those shows listed below at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibition (on 4 occasions), with the Royal Society of British Artists (17 times), and the Society of Women Artists (8 times between 1931-40).
