He was the son of Charles William Jones, Shipbroker and Shipowner and of Georgina Potter who was the first cousin once removed of Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) authoress. Ronald Potter was treasurer of the General Assembly of the Unitarian and Free Christian Churches 1939-59. In 1914 he published 'Nonconformist Church Architecture ... With twelve illustrations' (published by the Lindsey Press, London).
