Born in Wilmslow, Cheshire. He was a member of the Art Workers Guild for 57 years, from 1908 until his death in 1965. From 1899-1919 Dalton was Principal of Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, and also Curator of the South London Art Gallery, which he continued until about 1931. He exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy between 1931-6.
