He was editor of 'The Conoisseur' and the 'Magazine of Art' (1887-1904), he was a co-founder of 'Black and White' (a magazine devoted to print making). He was a regular contributor to 'The Graphic' (1882-1914), 'Pall Mall Gazette' (1883-7), the 'Globe' and 'Illustrated London News'. His published works included: biographies of John Ruskin and John Everett Millias, he also wrote a history of 'Punch'.
