James Edward Hellyer Jnr
Born 1846
Died 11 November 1918
Active: 1871 - 1911
Country of birth and death: England
Wood carver, ship's carver
Born in Rotherhithe, Surrey. He belonged to a family of wood carvers specialising in ship carvings, James Hellyer and Sons of London and Portsmouth. Among the known members of the business were his grandfather, James Edward Hellyer Senior (1787-1872), his father, Frederick (1822-1906) and his uncle, James (1828-81). It is not certain how long James Edward Junior worked for the family firm. The details of his occupation given in the 1901 and 1911 Census Returns are ambiguous and suggest he may have been working on his own at this stage. He moved to Gateshead before 1911 and died there in 1918.
Wealth at death: £865 18s. 11d.
Probate date: 10 December 1918
