Miss Esther Mary Moore
Born 6 November 1857
Died 1934 (Presumed)
Active: 1885 - 1919
Country of birth and death: England
Sculptor
Born in Burnley, Lancashire. Daughter of Henry Moore (born 1822 in Burnely Lancashire) who apears to have worked as a colliery agent for many years before retiring and becoming an 'Artist Sculp' by 1891. Esther's sisters included, Florence a painter and draughtsman, and Charlotte a wood carver (born c.1854 and c.1863 respectively in Burnley, Lancashire).
Esther began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1890 and thereafter showed widely until about 1920. She was judged one of the female sculptors that the Royal Society of British Sculptors felt might be included in the 1908 Franco-British exhibition [13 January 1908, Royal Society of British Sculptors: Minutes of Council Meetings, no.I]. An Esther M. Moore died in Devon in 1934, it is presumed to be the artist.
