Wood carver, manager of art school
Born in Hampstead, London. She was the daughter of Richard Rowe (born c.1798 in Exeter, Devon), East India (Tea) Merchant. She trained as a wood carver in the 1870s. By 1881 she was working as a wood carver and around 1901 was managing the School of Art Wood Carving in South Kensington (a number of accounts say she held this post for many years and it is probable she received her training there). Rowe later became Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Management and held this position until 1920. An older brother, Alfred (born c.1848) also worked as a wood carver. Rowe published a large number of books on wood carving, both 'How To' manuals and folios of exemplary carvings. Some of these remained in print after her death. She died in Kensington and her brother, George William Rowe, a solicitor was named in the probate records.
Wealth at death: £2,938 2s. 1d.
Probate date: 26 March 1920
