Sculptor, sculptor's assistant
Born in Bradford, Yorkshire. He was the son of Frederick James Youngman (born c.1858 in Nethersett, Norfolk), hosier and photgrapher. Harold studied at the Royal College of Art, completing his training in 1911 or 1912 and winning the Travelling Scholarship. He worked as chief assistant to William Goscombe John and taught at Hornsey School of Arts and Crafts. In 1914 Youngman married Dorothy Wainwright (born c.1888 in Plymouth), who studied embroidery at the Royal School of Art Needlework and won gold medals for her work. During the First World War, Youngman served in the Honourable Artillery Company. The exact date in October when Youngman died has yet to be confirmed. His obituary by Sir Charles Wheeler published on 12 October 1968 in 'The Times' states that Youngman died 'a few days ago'.
