Born in London. Died at 31 Queen's Gate, London. Studied at Goldsmiths' College, London and at the Royal Academy Schools. In 1913 Ledward was awarded the first Prix de Rome in sculpture at the British School at Rome, and a gold medal and travelling scholarship by the Royal Academy. See H. Gilbert's sister (Phyllis) Hilda Ledward married the sculptor Newbury Abbot Trent (1885-1953) and his sister Enid married the painter and art school principal, Percy Jowett.
