Born in Westminster, London. He was the son of William Silver Frith (1850-1924), architectural sculptor and teacher of modelling at South London Technical School of Art. Edgar was related by marriage to the sculptor E. Roland Bevan (1891-1979). From 1929 he taught modelling at South London Technical School of Art continuing the family's connection to the school.
