Active: 1904 - 1931
Country of birth and death: Belgium
Sculptor
Born in Ghent. He studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, Ghent and then in Brussels. From 1914-19 Minnne was professor of life modelling at the academy in his home city. He is particularly associated with Belgian symbolism and had close links with Belgian poets such as Maurice Maeterlinck, Émile Verhaeren and Grégoire Leroy. In 1892 Minne exhibited with the Salon de la Rose-Croix organised by Joséphin Péladan in Paris. He remained based in Belgium for the majority of his career but during the First World War Minne was a refugee. Between 1914 and 1919 he lived in Tregerddi, Lanidloes, Wales together with two other Belgian artists: Gustave van de Woestyne en Valerius de Saedeleer. It appears Minne received or inherited a title before 1931. He died at Laethem-Saint-Martin.
The details of Minne's period as a refugee were submitted by Peter Theunynck.
