Born in St Pancras, London. She was the daughter of James R. Gregory (born c.1833 in London), a mineralogist and employer who left effects valued at £4,699 12s. 7d at his death in 1899. Christine was a close friend of the sculptor Flora Kendrick (later Shipp). They shared a studio for some years and Christine named Flora in her will.
