Miss Ethel Kirkpatrick
Born 1869
Died 1966
Active: 1895 - 1941
Country of birth and death: England
Painter, jeweller, printmaker
Born in London. Her birth year is given in many sources as 1869 but she was probably born in 1870. She was the daughter of Thomas Sutton Kirkpatrick of Coolmine, Dublin (1833-1895) who served in the army and then worked for the prison service in London and Exeter. Ethel is said to have studied at the Royal Academy Schools and then enamelling and print-making (woodcuts) at Central School of Arts and Crafts but this is unconfirmed. The dates given in this record are taken from the years Kirkpatrick began and ended exhibiting at the Royal Academy of Arts. But Kirkpatrick also showed in many other venues, notably the Alpine Club Gallery, which have not been checked.
There is an entry for her in the Cornwall Artists Index because she and her sister, who was also an artist, spent time in St. Ives - http://cornwallartists.org/cornwall-artists/ethel-kirkpatrick (accessed 18 July 2013).
